Hi my name is Phil the brain cell. I am going to take you the life of a cell. Now some people think that cells just appear out of now where but that’s not how it happens, cells actually reproduce. This is called Mitosis. There are several steps to mitosis; you have interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telephase, and cytokinesis. The first phase interphase and the last phase cytokinesis aren’t technally part of mitosis but they are for today to make it less confusing. So lets go to the first phase; interphase; interphase is the longest phase in a cells life. During interphase cells grow and prepare for mitosis . There are three sections in interphase, G1, S, and G2. During G1 is the growth period for cells. S is when cells synthesis or when the DNA copies itself. G2 is another growth period for cells but also a prep period for mitosis.

The second phase is prophase. During prophase the chromatin in the nucleus, the nuclear envelope starts to break down, and the centrioles moved to different ends of the cell

The third stage of mitosis is metaphase. During metaphase the cells nuclear membrane is completely gone and chromosomes line up in the middle getting ready for anaphase.

The most fun stage of mitosis is anaphase (that’s the one I’m in right now). During this phase the chromosomes split and move to opposite ends of the cell.

The next and the last phase of mitosis is telophase. During this phase the DNA starts to unwind turning into chromatin and the nuclear envelope reforms.

The last things that happens is cytokinesis. This technically is not one of the stages of mitosis but I will include it anyway. During this stage the cytoplasm starts to separate.
